History

The Society for Craniofacial Genetics was founded in 1975 to promote research, education, communication and policy about normal and abnormal development of the head, face and neck.

Our members include scientists, physicians, and dentists and we also attract a large cohort of graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, clinical trainees and residents.

In 2011 the name of the Society was expanded to include Developmental Biology reflecting the integration of genetics and developmental anatomy in interdisciplinary craniofacial biology.

Since the Society’s inception, our members have shared their clinical and scientific knowledge and made numerous advances in understanding the genetic and developmental mechanisms underlying normal and abnormal development of the craniofacial complex.

Our goals however remain the same: to improve our understanding of craniofacial development and disease, promote policy and patient advocacy, and  translate basic science discoveries into clinical therapies and improved patient care.
